About Me
I am currently a Part 1 Architectural Assistant at Ptolemy Dean Architects having graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2024. My year out has taught me that in my working life there will be no end to learning, that each project offers the chance to gain new knowledge. I embrace this journey and wish to extract as much out of my master’s as possible; to have my ideas challenged, pushed and made stronger throughout the course. I have already seen my passions develop and change in ways unexpected to me and I am eager to discover how I will be shaped next.
Within architecture I am continuously drawn back to landscape, my passion lies the heritage of vernacular architecture. The use of natural materials and craftsmanship which can create a built environment for both people and the natural world. This is the way in which I believe we can be most sustainable. I find joy in buildings which are tied to the land, steeped in history, people and culture. I am searching for how these passions of mine can be translated into the modern world, using the tools and knowledge of the past to create spaces which are expressive of our communities.
But it is not just a ruin on a lonely outcrop that excites me. I also have an interest in urban spaces, the history and development of urban settlements and the people that inhabit them. I am always on the hunt for historic buildings and the blending of time in our streetscapes.
My passion for architecture has led me to continue learning outside of University and my work. I am a member of the Georgian Group and the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) , in which I attend lectures and events to further the development of my knowledge. My academic interests extend beyond architecture to literature, art and history. I enjoy stone carving, wood whittling, print making and the fibre arts. I am captivated by the tactile; items where human touch is evident. I believe that these qualities deeply influence my architectural purpose as they intertwine with the built environment. For architecture; is literature, it is storytelling and poetry, as well as art and human craft. It is history in a timeline stretching back to the creation of primitive shelters. Because when literature, art and people change so does architecture.
